Day 01

After a well needed rest, we woke up at the crack of dawn and made our way downstairs to breakfast then to the coach. we arrived at the Johnson space center and was already greeted by old fighter planes. Once inside, it was incredible, there was displays, murals and models everywhere! An introduction was made by space centre houston and we got a tram tour about all the buildings in nasa - including one that held a real and unused rocket! Later, we transferred to the official space centre classrooms and spent the day planning, designing and building a model rocket. It was very interesting and educational learning all about the dangers of a space launch and what protocols had to take place in order for a successful flight. We then used this knowledge to design practical heat proof shields to protect a 'eggstranaut' from a burning propane flame and cryogenic protective cover to protect an 'marshanaut' from liquid nitrogen. Once completed day 1 of the space centre, the coaches collected and took us back to the hotel. We had a few hours of down time and then went down for pizza and cookies. Now, we are just chilling up in our rooms, relaxing and resting for the busy day tomorrow!
