Day 02

Th

ng woke to the pattering rain and cool distant clouds- illuminating amber lights and brightening the day ahead. After breakfast, we boarded the coaches to the Johnson Space Centre; models, launch designs and paintings reminding us of yesterday's familiar excitement. Afterwards, we were guided through the Destiny Theatre, twinkling stars above our heads. We then took a tram tour around the Centre, leading us to a Mission Control Centre. of the Apollo 11 moon landing. We were lucky enough to witness a complete replica of this landing - the first landing on the moon! After the morning tours, we went straight back to the classroom and were introduced to today's task: Mars Habitats. We were tasked to construct a base to be able to sustain the lives of 4 astronauts for 500 days on Mars. We had to think about various needs like food, water and energy supplies as well as taking into account the effect of radiation on Mars. We worked on these habitats through the afternoon, preparing a presentation and building a model out of many materials with each of us taking a different role within the group. During presentations there were so many great ideas, particularly Dr Stutchbury's M.A.R.S, M.A.R.S, M.A.R.S and M.A.R.S. In the evening, after a very exciting day, we visited an arcade called the Main Event and enjoyed a delicious meal. After that, we had a really fun game of bowling in our lanes of 5, and there were many strikes, making the game very exciting. Laser Quest was our next game, and even though it got quite competitive, it really was enjoyable. Finally we finished with some arcade games, ranging from virtual reality to dance-offs, and even a few games of Mario Kart.
